DAY 4: RØLDAL TO VØRINGFOSSEN

Today we were to make a journey of 5 hours or more, from Roldal to Voringfossen and back. And I had prior agreement that where ever I want to take photos, Car has to be stopped. It was a good deal as it was better than me Driving the car. Of course I am an excellent driver(having clean driving records of getting first speeding ticket after 8 years of driving), but just the problem is I can not control myself from concentrating on the landscapes outside rather than keeping my eyes on the road or stopping the car if I see a great view, without thinking if there are cars behind me.

Even though Traffic was not heavy, big Caravans used to block the narrow roads at times. Most people prefer using Caravans as there are so many well equipped camping grounds in Norway and one has to pay as less as 15-20 euros per night compared to Cabins which cost around 50+ euros or hotels which are much more expensive. Many travel with their cars, but having their own tents to make a halt. This seems to be much flexible option as one does not have to plan before, just have to look at the possible camping grounds nearby in the place one decides to make a stay. But the negative side is the unpredictable weather conditions.

When we planned our trip to Norway we had noted down few famous waterfalls and one of them which we wanted to visit was Vøringfossen. On the way we visited many other waterfalls names of which we did not know earlier. In fact, some of them does not seem to have any name at all.

LÅTEFOSSEN:

This waterfall lies in the municipality of Odda of  Hordaland region in Norway. It consists of two separate streams flowing down from lake Lotevatnet which join in the middle and flows under the Norwegian Highway E13 making a spectacular view.  There is a Kiosk just beside the Waterfall where one can get Coffee and souvenirs. We passed this route 4 times and all 4 times we stopped here. Each time the weather conditions were different and we had different experiences. Because of the roaring sound of the waterfall, after being there for a while it is natural for one to feel “It’s enough for now” but next time you pass by, you still feel like stopping and spending some more time there. Though we enjoyed being near almost each waterfall, kids did not seem to enjoy much.

There are enough parking spaces to park the vehicle while taking a break at Latefossen.

We were tempted to have a coffee at the Kiosk at Latefossen and to relish sitting on the bench just beside the Waterfall during our last stop there.

No Name” Waterfall:

When one drives from Røldal towards Odda, around 300 meters before the Latefossen, there is another waterfalls on the left side of the road, name of which is not known. There is no place to park and hence one should have a look from the vehicle itself.IMG_2697
