This was our 5th trip to Switzerland and all our visits so far was around the region Berner Oberland(Interlaken, Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald). We used to travel by public transport and so our trips used to be typical touristic areas having access with Bus and trains. We wanted to visit Mt. Titlis, not because of it being famous, but to visit the Indian Snacks shop near the Cable car station at Engelberg. The first thing that we did there was to have hot hot Idli Vada and then proceed to Cable car station. View from the Cable Car.
During winter!
When we reachted the top most station at Titlis, outside it was too foggy and windy.
Area was crowded with tourists, as Mt.Titlis is part of most of the package tours. We tried to walk on the snow, but as the visibility was too bad, we did not dare to explore much. Rather we spent an hour or so and decided to go down.
On our Cable car trip back from Mt. Titlis to Engelberg, we got down at the stop Trübsee. It was foggy and we could barely see 10 meters ahead. Without expecting anything just started walking as the surroundings looked magical. At times the fog used to fade away a little bit revealing the areas behind. We did not know where we were going. We had whole afternoon for us and we just wanted to walk as far as we can return.
At this point of time Swasti was 6 years and we were not very much keen about hiking, rather the trips were focused more about photography. As we had packed our food, we were not keen about the time of return as well. As the fog used to fade away, the lush green patch with alpine flowers used to show up with fog covered mountains behind.
After crossing almost half way round the lake, found a bench with a nice view. Both of them had the food that we had packed, while I was busy with my camera.
I this this was my 2nd trip after getting my Canon DSLR camera and I was in all enthusiasm to take pictures. I did not have any special lenses, but only the ones which came along as a bundle with my camera. I was not into Macro photography yet at that time. But still small plants like the one below used to catch my attention. I was hoping to get a macro lens soon.
After passing around 70% of distance around the lake, we got near this valley and as we saw some cows and calbs, we started walking down. The Calbs were so cute making sounds of bells as they grazed.
I do not think without the fog, the area would have looked as magical as it was. Whole walk gave us a feeling that we need to explore more areas by walk, rather than visiting tourist attractions. I do not remember Swasti complaining about walking. After reaching Engelberg, it was time to enjoy the Indian Snacks at the same shop again. We had samosa, pav bhaji and masala tea before catching our train back to Interlaken.
We have been fortunate to visit some of these places in different seasons and in each season nature has its different experience to offer. Below 2 pictures are taken from almost the same place but in two different seasons. It is hard to believe that both are same locations unless one looks closely at the Restaurant AlpsTübli at the other side of the lake and identify the same in the picture taken in winter.
In 2016 when we visited St. Gallan during easter holidays, again we got tempted to visit Mt. Titlis, the motivation being obvious. That day the weather was sooo good, though we had not planned, we decided to go up with Cable car. And we could explore most of attractions what Mt.Titlis had to offer, like walking on the suspension bridge, Iceflyer and visiting the glacier park at Trübsee.
Same location in Summer.
Trübes glacier park…
It is really fun to glide over the soft snow using these tubes. Feels like being in a roller coaster.

We were not well equipped with warm clothing or gloves as we had not planned to go up Mt.Titlis and kids literally cried without being able to cope up with cold. It was windy at times and due to sun glare eyes were turning red.
Information about the attractions in the region of Mt.Titlis can be found in the official website “https://www.titlis.ch/”
